Amending Law No. (27) of 2009
Concerning the Dubai Judicial Institute[1]

We, Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai,
After
perusal of:
Law
No. (6) of 1992 Establishing the Judicial Council and its amendments; and
Law
No. (27) of 2009 Concerning the Dubai Judicial Institute (the “Original Law”),
Do hereby issue this Law.
Articles (2), (3), (4), and (9) of the Original Law are hereby
superseded by the following:
The following words and
expressions, wherever mentioned in this Law, will have the meaning indicated
opposite each of them unless the context implies otherwise:

1. This Law will apply to the Dubai Higher Institute for Legal and
Judicial Sciences established under Law No. (1) of 1996, which has legal
personality and the legal capacity required to undertake all acts and
dispositions that ensure the achievement of its objectives, and which is
affiliated to the Judicial Council.
2. The name “Dubai Higher Institute for Legal and Judicial Sciences” is
hereby replaced by “Dubai Judicial Institute”.
The head office
of the DJI will be located in the Emirate.
The Board of Directors will
have the duties and powers to:
1. establish the general policy and
strategic plans of the DJI, and supervise the implementation
thereof after being approved by the Judicial Council;
2. approve the organisational structure
of the DJI and submit it to the Judicial Council
for final approval;
3. approve the financial and
administrative bylaw of the DJI;
4. appoint faculty and trainers from
amongst academic and specialised persons;
5. approve the bylaws regulating
educational programmes offered by the DJI, including the legal and judicial
sciences diploma programmes;
6. approve the annual plan of the
educational programmes, educational and training courses, workshops, and
seminars of the DJI;
7. form committees from amongst its
members and other persons to undertake any duties assigned to such committees
by the Board of Directors, including committees assigned the supervision of interviews
and tests; and approve the results of such tests and interviews;
8. approve tuition fees for educational
and training programmes and courses;
9. admit scholars from within and outside
of the UAE to study in the DJI;
10. approve test results for the
qualifying courses and programmes conducted by the DJI;
11. approve agreements and memoranda of
understanding with specialised academic and training entities;
12. approve the draft annual budget and
final accounts of the DJI; and
13. undertake any other duties as required
to perform the work of the DJI.
This
Law comes into force on the day on which it is issued, and will be published in
the Official Gazette.
