Amending Law No. (6) of 1992
Establishing the Judicial
Council[1]

We, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler
of Dubai,
After perusal of:
Law No. (6) of 1992
Establishing the Judicial Council and its amendments (the “Original Law”),
Do hereby issue this Law.
Article (2) of the Original Law is hereby superseded by the
following:
A Judicial Council is hereby established in the Emirate of
Dubai and is formed as follows:
1. His
Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as chairman;
2. the
Director of His Highness the Ruler’s Court, as vice chairman;
3. the
Attorney General, as member;
4. the
Director of the Dubai Courts, as member;
5. the
Head of the Court of Cassation, as member;
6. the
Head of the Court of Appeal, as member;
7. the
Head of the Court of First Instance, as member; and
8. the
Director of Judicial Inspection, as member.
9. Resolutions
of the Judicial Council will be passed by majority vote, and in the event of a
tie, the chairman will have the casting vote.
The
following Article (7)bis is hereby inserted into the Original Law:
The Judicial Council will have a general secretariat headed
by a secretary general. The secretary general will be appointed by a decree of
the Ruler, and his duties and functions will be determined pursuant to a
regulation issued by the Judicial Council.
Any provision in any other legislation will be repealed to
the extent that it contradicts the provisions of this Law.
This Law comes into force on the day on which it is issued,
and will be published in the Official Gazette.
