Law No. (1) of 2008
Establishing the
Dubai Government Workshop[1]

We, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of
Dubai,
After perusal of:
Law No. (17) of 2006 Affiliating the Government of
Dubai Workshop to the Dubai Municipality; and
Law No. (3) of 2003 Establishing the Executive
Council of the Emirate of Dubai,
Do hereby issue this Law.
This Law will be cited as “Law No. (1) of 2008
Establishing the Dubai Government Workshop”.
The following words and expressions will have the
meaning indicated opposite each of them unless the context implies otherwise:

Pursuant to this Law, a public corporation known
as the “Dubai Government Workshop” is established. The DGW will have legal
personality, financial and administrative autonomy, and the legal capacity
required to undertake all acts and dispositions that ensure the achievement of
its objectives. The DGW may enter into contracts with third parties, may sue
and be sued in its own name, and may appoint any other person to represent it
for this purpose. The DGW is hereby affiliated to the HHRC.
The head office of the DGW will be located in
Dubai. The DGW may establish branches within and outside of the Emirate.
The objective of the DGW is to provide transport,
insurance, and maintenance services to the vehicles, machinery, and equipment owned
by the Government of Dubai, and to the vehicles owned by their Highnesses the
Sheikhs. The DGW may also provide these services to the departments,
corporations, and local authorities affiliated to the Government of Dubai.
The Executive Director will be appointed to the
DGW pursuant to a resolution of the Chairman of the Executive Council.
The Executive Director will have the duties to:
1.
undertake general supervision of the DGW;
2.
manage the DGW and represent it in its relations
with third parties; and
3.
enter into any contracts and agreements required
for achievement of the DGW objectives.
The financial resources of the DGW will consist
of:
1.
the budget approved by the Executive Council; and
2.
any other resources approved by the Executive
Council.
The DGW staff members employed by the Dubai
Municipality will be transferred to the Dubai Government Workshop established
pursuant to this Law. Law No. (27) of 2006 Concerning Management of the
Government of Dubai Human Resources will apply to these employees.
The Director of the HHRC will issue the
regulations and resolutions required for the implementation of the provisions
of this Law.
Law No. (17) of 2006 Affiliating the Government of
Dubai Workshop to the Dubai Municipality is hereby repealed. Any provision in
any other legislation will also be repealed to the extent it contradicts the
provisions of this Law.
This Law will be published in the Official Gazette
and will come into force on the day on which it is published.
